The 1st principle of Art is - BALANCE.
Balance within an artwork can be shown for example by the use of an arrangement of objects within a painting which are balanced on both sides such as having a vase in the middle of the canvas with apples on both the right hand side of the vase and left hand side. This is a classic example of a symmetrical artwork. These combination of elements are used to provoke a feeling, which can add stability to the artwork, resulting in equilibrium. There is 2 major types of this balance within an artwork and they are called symmetrical and asymmetrical. Asymmetrical art does not match up on both sides like symmetrical does.
